Does Runway Train on Your Videos?

Short answer: for regular accounts, its terms say it may.

What the terms say

In Runway's Terms of Use, Section 4.4 reads: "Inputs and Outputs may be used by the Company to train and improve its AI models." In the same section you grant Runway a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to use your inputs and outputs for that purpose. "Inputs" means what you upload. "Outputs" means what it makes for you.

The version we read was last updated September 15, 2026, and it didn't describe an opt-out.

What we don't know

The terms mention separate Enterprise Services terms. We haven't read those, so we can't tell you whether an Enterprise customer is treated differently. If you're buying for a company, ask Runway for that document.

If that's a problem for you

You have three options. Ask Runway in writing whether your account can be excluded. Use a tool whose terms say it doesn't train, and read them yourself. Or keep sensitive footage out of any tool that does.

Ours doesn't train on your uploads. The comparison is on BetterVideo vs Runway, and the same question for the other tools is on Which AI video generators train on your uploads?

A note on these facts

BetterVideo is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Runway, Luma, Kling or any other company named here, and their names belong to their owners. We use them only to say which product we mean.

Everything about other companies comes from their own public pages, which we read on October 20, 2026. This is our review of what those pages say, not a claim about how any company behaves in practice, what it intends, or how it treats your data. Where we couldn't confirm something, we say so. Terms, prices and features change without notice, so open the linked source and read the current version before you rely on it. This page is general information and not legal, financial or purchasing advice, and we can't promise it is complete or still current. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it quickly.
