Which AI Video Generators Train on Your Uploads?

If you upload client footage, a product photo or anything under an NDA, it matters whether the company can feed it back into its own AI. Most people never read that part of the terms. We did.

The short answer

Two of the three big tools say in their regular terms that they may train on what you put in. The third we couldn't confirm either way. Here is each one, with the sentence we found.

Runway

Section 4.4 of Runway's Terms of Use says inputs and outputs "may be used by the Company to train and improve its AI models." You also give Runway a worldwide, perpetual license to use them for that. The page doesn't describe a way for a regular account to opt out. It was last updated September 15, 2026.

Runway has separate Enterprise terms. We haven't read them, so we won't say what's in them. More on this one in Does Runway train on your videos?

Luma

Luma's Terms of Use (updated May 14, 2026) give Luma a license to use your uploads and your results to "create, test, improve, train, or otherwise develop" its AI models. On a free account the license is wider and includes showing your content publicly. Luma's API and Enterprise terms are separate documents that we haven't read in full. Search results describe them as promising no training, so read them yourself if that's the product you use.

Kling

We couldn't find a clear statement either way in the pages we could open, so we're not going to guess. Kling's privacy policy was updated on April 21, 2026. If you work under an NDA, read it, then ask Kling in writing and keep the answer.

What we do

We don't use your uploads or the videos you make to train anything. Videos you upload for enhancement are deleted automatically after 30 days, and videos made in Create are removed after 30 days too. If you need shorter retention or a data processing agreement, write to us.

That's a promise in our terms and on this site. It isn't an audit, and we don't claim any formal certification. If your company needs one, you should know that before you sign up.

A note on these facts

BetterVideo is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Runway, Luma, Kling or any other company named here, and their names belong to their owners. We use them only to say which product we mean.

Everything about other companies comes from their own public pages, which we read on October 20, 2026. This is our review of what those pages say, not a claim about how any company behaves in practice, what it intends, or how it treats your data. Where we couldn't confirm something, we say so. Terms, prices and features change without notice, so open the linked source and read the current version before you rely on it. This page is general information and not legal, financial or purchasing advice, and we can't promise it is complete or still current. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Maybe not. For a holiday clip or a meme, most people won't care. It matters when the footage belongs to a client, shows people who didn't agree to it, or is covered by an NDA.

Deleting a file doesn't undo a license you already granted in the terms, and it doesn't pull anything out of a model that was already trained. Read the terms before you upload, not after.

Try it with one short video

One credit makes a short Full HD video with music or a voiceover. Credits never expire and there's no subscription, so a single test costs you almost nothing.
